About our guest: Monse Videla

Monse is a Creative Strategist with +20 years of experience in advertising across industries such as QSR, Finance, Technology, Travel, CPG and Automotive.

Monse's passion lies in bridging the gap between media, creativity, and culture. And while she has spent much of her career in Toronto when she lived in Chile, she led the social media offering at Leo Burnett.

When she isn't cuddling her Siamese cat in the pool or DIYing, she enjoys people (dog) watching, long bus rides to remote thrift stores ,and creating content for her Vintage Store.

Brilliant Weird Best

Planners are curious folks so we asked Monse to tell us the most brilliant, weirdest and best thing she’s come across recently.

Brilliant: Coca-Cola supports a Filipino gift-giving tradition

WPP's Open X launched Balikbayan Magic which helped Filipino families send treats, snacks, and presents to loved ones back home.

"Sending a Balikbayan box and the tradition of sharing with family, even when you are far away, is a deeply important cultural insight we are excited to celebrate,” explained Stephanie Eaddy, group director of cultural marketing at The Coca-Cola Company.

Desperately Seeking Soulmate

Weird: Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe

This is a documentary which explores the psychology behind charismatic "cult leaders" and how loneliness and the search for love can make people fall for scams.

Workday

Best: "Rockstar"

It's hard to choose one but as a Metalhead I pick Workday's commercial with Ozzy Osbourne, Joan Jett, Paul Stanley and Billy Idol.

Top Guilty Pleasures

Not all of our consumption habits can be academic. In fact, sometimes the most random things can spur our thinking. So we asked Monse to give us the sources to her creativity.

Baking a Mystery

YouTube: Baking a Mystery

Stephanie Soo (also known for her mukbang and true crime videos) narrates mostly thriller books, series and movies while baking. My ADHD can't deal with subtitles for too long, so these storytime videos are a great way to consume Asian content.

Dressed podcast

Podcast: Dressed: The history of fashion

This series explores the social and cultural histories behind the who, what, when and why we wear. It brings together two of my passions: history and fashion
One of my favourite episodes is "Etiquette of the Fête in Gilded Age New York" <3

4th Person Prounouns

Contributor: Ben Percifield

It seems that the oft-overlooked 4th person pronoun is becoming more common in regular conversation with phrases like “Chat, what do we think” emerging thanks to their use in livestream environments like Discord and Twitch and on forums like Reddit.
